“Hello, granny! How’s your leg?” A volunteered kindly asked. 

“It’s so kind of you. Thank you”. Granny replied and was all smiles. 

Last week, the editor joined volunteers to distribute bread in Fanling district and witnessed that not only did volunteers gave out bread to a granny, but also cared for her physical conditions. Through simple conversations, care and warmth spread to the heart. 

“Please eat the bread soon. Don’t let it sit there for too long!”

Last week, volunteers took part in the collection and distribution of bread and meal box sharing action in six districts, namely Fo Tan, Tai Po, Fanling, To Kwa Wan, Hung Hom and Causeway Bay. A total of 668 servings of bread and 50 meal boxes were collected weighing 123.90 kg in total. The total number of beneficiaries was 356.

Here were the results of each district:

Fo Tan: On Saturday, 137 servings of bread weighing 16.94 kgs were collected; On Sunday, 74 servings of bread weighing 6.92 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were distributed to the cleaners and members of the neighbourhood. The total number of beneficiaries was 92.

Tai Po: On Saturday, 104 servings of bread weighing 13.64 kgs were collected; On Sunday, 58 servings of bread weighing 9.45 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were distributed to the cleaners, scavengers, the homeless and members of the neighbourhood. The total number of beneficiaries was 99.

Fanling: On Tuesday, 130 servings of bread weighing 16.27 kgs were collected; On Friday, 105 servings of bread weighing 14.20 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were distributed to the cleaners, security guards, scavengers and the homeless in the district. The total number of beneficiaries was 83.

To Kwa Wan: On Wednesday, 28 sandwiches (included in the total bread weight) weighing 6.61 kgs were collected; On Sunday, 32 servings of bread weighing 2.32 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were distributed to the cleaners and the homeless in the district. The total number of beneficiaries was 32.

Hung Hom: On Friday, 23 meal boxes weighing 22.43 kgs were collected. All meal boxes were distributed to the cleaners and scavengers in the To Kwa Wan neighbourhood. The total number of beneficiaries was 23.

Causeway Bay: On Friday, 27 meal boxes weighing 15.12 kgs were collected. All meal boxes were distributed to the homeless and members in the Victoria Park, Tin Hau and Fortress Hill neighbourhood. The total number of beneficiaries was 27.
